Police in riot gear clashed with protesters in Douala, Cameroon, on Sunday (October 26), firing tear gas and water cannons to disperse crowds demanding transparency in the October 12 presidential election.
Dozens of opposition activists and politicians linked to candidate Issa Tchiroma were detained, including Anicet Ekane of the MANIDEM party and Djeukam Tchameni from the Union for Change movement.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement, as tensions mount ahead of the expected results announcement on Monday.
Protesters accuse the government of voter suppression and call for a fair count.
