Mini Hippo Baby has the Zoomies on Land and in Water at ZooTampa in Tampa, Florida. Two-month old mini (aka "pygmy") hippo baby, Ruka, has lots of energy and lets loose running, jumping, and spinning around on land and in the water, with patient mama Zsa Zsa watching and sometimes playing too. When it's finally time to relax, mama lays on her side in the water so that Ruka can nurse. The end of a perfect day! Pygmy hippos are endangered with estimates of less than 3,000 in the wild. Unlike common hippos, pygmy hippos spend more time on land than in the water and their bodies have therefore adapted differently with fewer webbed toes and a smaller head. Pygmy hippos are half as tall as common hippos and weigh less than 1/4 the weight.
