I’d like to share with you how the Kapampangan community observes Holy Week. While I personally may not agree with some of the practices, I approached this experience with an open mind, seeking to understand the meaning and beliefs behind these traditions.

At the end of the day, my perspective remains the same—but I have deep respect for the faith and devotion of others. It is not my place to judge whether these acts are spiritually effective or simply cultural traditions passed down through generations.

**** Penitensya, or penitence, is a traditional act of devotion observed by some Filipinos during Holy Week—most notably on Good Friday. It often involves carrying a wooden cross or self-flagellation using bamboo-tipped whips called burillos, as a form of sacrifice and repentance for one's sins.

However, the Catholic Church has consistently discouraged this practice, encouraging the faithful instead to seek repentance through prayer, reflection, and genuine acts of atonement, rather than through physical self-harm.
