Obituary for Johnnie Rusty Younger III
Johnnie Younger, “Rusty”, was born on Nov 2, 1956, in Tulsa, OK. He passed away at his home in Welling, OK on May 2nd, 2021.
Rusty is survived by his wife, Barbara Lemon, sons, Carson Lemon-Younger and Dakota Perry, his brother, Larry Younger, daughter in Law, Shelby Lemon-Younger and his two grandsons, Ian and Logan Lemon-Younger. Rusty has a wealth of cousins and friends who will always have fun and loving memories of him.
His childhood friends, Kenny Crandell and Dennis Johnson, remain to keep his shenanigans alive.
Rusty leaves behind a wonderful extended Cherokee Nation Family. He was loved beyond measure by the people he worked with and he loved them. The facilities department was his base camp, but whomever he came in contact with was almost immediately a friend. Rusty was a people person, he loved making people laugh. He was well-known for his practical jokes, quick wit and easy going personality. He was very detailed in his work, and he wanted the people he took care of to have what they needed and for everything to be right.
Like most parents, Rusty loved his sons like no other. They had the usual disagreements. He was always mad that they did not mow the lawn when he expected it. When Barbara asked if he told them to do it, he always replied, “I shouldn’t have to, they can see it needs to be done.” Barbara always replied the same way, “What teenager can see that the grass needs to be mowed?“
As Carson and Dakota grew into men, Rusty was more than happy to spend time with them as adults. Whether fishing or driving around, he genuinely enjoyed being with them. The boys were his pride and joy. He even had a bulletin board at work where he would post pictures of them.
Rusty had a passion for flea markets and yard sales. He could be found almost every Saturday and Sunday at the Woodall flea market, which was another place where he knew everyone and everyone knew him. To Barbara’s dismay, he found many “treasures” there. He always said, “I got it cheap, cheap, you never know when we will need it!” He had an eye for antique fishing lures and equipment.
He did get one treasure that Barbara agreed with. Rusty called her his best girl Jessie. She was his dog and he took great pains to see she was top dog at home.
He loved listening to KTLQ radio--especially Trade Winds. Rusty got many “Good Deals” there as well. He would be sad to know they discontinued that part of their programming.
But Rusty’s favorite place to be was the farm. You were hard pressed to ever get him to leave it for longer than a trip to the flea market or a car show. He did leave it for a week when he drove to North Carolina for the birth of his grandson, Logan. That was huge for Rusty. He drove back to Oklahoma alone while Barbara stayed back. Carson and Barbara were so afraid he would get lost going home, but he made it and in record time. The farm is where he felt the most at peace. Cows, hay, fences, building, piddling around the farm, all brought him joy. Even though he complained all the time about it, he would not have it any other way.
Rusty took up cooking the last several years. He loved posting his creations on Facebook. He took time setting all the ingredients up for the perfect picture, making sure he had the “What’s for Supper Grandpa” meme in the post. He loved it when people would ohhh and ahhh over his delicious meals. Fun fact; he rarely ate them. He liked cooking but was not much of an eater. He counted on Barbara giving him a critique. One time she arrived home to a fajita dinner with all the fixins. He fixed her a plate, waited until she was done and then asked for her opinion. Barbara told him they were ok but restaurant fajitas are hard to beat. It was then that he informed her they were from a restaurant. He had come home and put them in the iron skillet to make it look like he had made them. He laughed and laughed about that.
Rusty Younger was an exceptionally kind man who loved his family. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and we have the hope of seeing him again.
Revelations 14:13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” Blessed indeed, says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them!”
