Mick's Classic Bike Cave: Classic Restos - Series 58

Fletch heads 200km west of Sydney to a modest 9-acre property, where he finds not just a shed full of classic bikes but a treasure trove of passion and family history.

At the heart of Mick's collection is a standout: a pristine 1978 HZ Kingswood Premier Sedan. Mick reveals that locating the car was quite a challenge, as it needed to be the same year, make, and model, with the same exterior and interior as the model his father once owned. Ultimately, a Facebook post led him to one on the Sunshine Coast, and after exchanging 100 photos and videos, Mick knew he'd found the one. The 4.2-litre 253 V8 remains entirely original, untouched since it left the dealership, and has a complete ownership history.

Mick has meticulously maintained the car in its original condition, stating it feels like new despite being 47 years old. The car drives beautifully, characterised by its smooth, quiet, and comfortable ride. He challenges anyone to find a car from today that will age as well as this one.

At only 38 years old, Mick has a lifelong passion for bikes, having built an impressive collection over the years. Following in his father's footsteps, he has sought out some of his father's earlier restored motorcycles.

The first of these is a 1958 BSA Shooting Star 500cc parallel twin, known for its comfortable and upright design that makes it easy to ride.

Another motorcycle from Mick's father's collection is a 1958 BSA Spitfire Scrambler, a 650cc parallel twin desert race bike equipped with a straight-through exhaust and large knobby tyres. It serves as a genuine off-road racer and a thrilling ride.

One of Micks' favourite bikes is his 1935 Harley Davidson 1200cc Flathead 3-speed, restored in the US 40 years ago and part of a museum collection before Micks ownership. He describes it as an oily, greasy, dirty bike, but he embraces its rugged appearance. It's a true rider, and he recently completed a 4,400km journey across Australia on it during the 2025 Southern Cross Cannonball Classic, a 13-day rally from Darwin to Victor Harbour for pre-1948 motorcycles. It's a great adventure where like-minded bike enthusiasts from all over the country come together to celebrate their passion. Whilst Mick says the bike is difficult to ride, once it gets going on the open road, it sits nicely at 55–60 miles per hour.

And finally, there's a sentimental favourite: a 1945 New Hudson Auto Cycle. It might only be a humble 50cc 2-stroke Villiers, but for Mick, it's pure nostalgia, bringing back memories of carefree childhood rides around his grandfather's property.
