The upper sphere of a hydragas unit for an MGF is filled with nitrogen (N2).
As time goes by the nitrogen disappears through the rubber diaphragma into the lower sphere where the hydragasfluid is.
This video shows how to measure the current N2 pressure with a standard hydragas pump. The process is similar to the test written to the MGF workshop manual for testing an individual displacer. Result here is pressure of about 4 to 5 bar only at an ambient temperature of app. 22°Celsius. The unit had been used for about 15 years and the mileage is 170k km (app 105k miles).
No smooth ride anymore with that car, cause of misding N2 volume and pressure. However the next step is to re-gas the part with help of a schrader valve to be fitted into the upper sphere can and refill with N2 up to app. 20 bar.
Check the first video aswell where we show the N2 pressure of a new MGF displacer.
