Normally when Giga Bowser uses Fire Breath, it's a prime opportunity to attack him. With Roy though, it's the worst thing Giga Bowser can do, Roy gets shut downed by it hard. You can't run through the flames, and Roy can barely get in the air, while then putting up pitiful and laggy offense in the air that leaves him an easy target for Dark Dives. Roy might have a nice f-smash, and a d-tilt that combos the CPUs into it nicely, but it hardly helps Roy, when Giga Bowser easily outreaches it. Roy would be the one of the worst characters at The Showdown, maybe even worse than Pichu, if it wasn't for one saving grace...
Roy's key to victory here is Counter. Between Ganondorf's Warlock Punches and up tilts, and Giga Bowser's Bowser Bomb, there are many opportunities to deal devastating blows of around 40% in damage and get sub-50% kills. You want to get as many Counters in on these moves as possible, it will be your major source of damage and landing killing blows. Outside Counter, your only reliable means of killing when all three are alive is f-smash. Cherish the Counter, you will need it.
Roy is a bad character.
(Also Brian, what's the deal with Roy's dancing blade when recovering? I'll get knocked off and use it to aid recovery as usual. When I then get knocked back off after landing on stage, it doesn't aid my recovery and I just drop when I use it. Does some time have to pass before it can be used again, does it have to be "charged", what are the rules with it?)
