The houses in Huangnidong Ancient Village (黄泥洞古村) are built with Shepan stone(蛇蟠石), featuring well-preserved stone walls, stone windows, stone wells, and stone Buddha carvings that together create a unique “stone village” landscape.
The village originated from the stone-mining culture of the Song Dynasty (960–1279). More than sixty stone row houses built in the 1960s–1970s still stand today, retaining their original and rustic appearance.
Walking along the stone paths feels like stepping back into the old stone-mining era. At the foot of the village, the steep stone cliffs—left behind by quarrying centuries ago—quietly tell the long history of Shepan Island (蛇蟠岛).
Yet today, not a single villager can be found. The entire village feels deserted, as if its inhabitants vanished overnight.
