A SILVER STAR FOR THE AFGHANISTAN 13

Below is the paper letter I wrote to government officials and military leaders recommending the SILVER STAR.

I believe it is past time for military commanders and the President of the United States along with all members of Congress to recommend awarding the 11 brave Marines, 1 Sailor and 1 Soldier the Silver Star for their heroism and ultimate sacrifice protecting Americans and Afghanis against a threatening enemy force 10 times their size by the Taliban during the debacle of the withdrawal from Afghanistan.

I believe the President of the United States, the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of the Navy, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the US Marine Corps Commandant are directly responsible for the deaths of 13 of our military service members and have the blood of these 13 brave heroes on their hands.

The Afghanistan massacre of our 11 Marines, 1 Sailor and 1 Soldier and the wounding of 18 other American Servicemen and Servicewomen will be a stain our country will never be able to erase from the hearts and minds of all Americans.

I do not think I have ever been this angry and cynical about the decisions our President, Vice President and all the Democrats in Congress made concerning the withdrawal from Afghanistan in my lifetime. As a US Navy combat veteran serving multiple tours in Vietnam and Afghanistan in the 1980's and a peacetime US Coast Guard veteran the deaths of these 13 young heroes has touched me to the very core of my soul.

Communist China is simply standing by while we destroy our country from within and I for one will fight back in any way I can and the way all Americans can do this is by voting the radical Democrats out of office.

Marxism, Socialism and Communism are the norm nowadays and the Islamic Terrorists and currently the Taliban have proven it time and time again with their attacks on innocent people.

The Silver Star is the third-highest military combat decoration that can be awarded to a member of the United States Armed Forces.

It is awarded for gallantry in action...

1. While engaged in action against an enemy of the United States.
2. While engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force.
3. While serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict against an opposing armed force in which the United States is not a belligerent party.

Actions that merit the Silver Star must be of such a high degree that they are above those required for all other U.S. combat decorations but do not meet the criteria of awarding the Medal of Honor or a Distinguished Service Cross, the Navy Cross or the Air Force Cross.

These 13 brave military heroes were awarded the Purple Heart posthumously without question but I believe that considering the mission they undertook was fraught with a looming disaster they met an opposing force at least 10 times their strength thus the awarding of a higher medal is not only merited but should be without question deserved.

The Purple Heart Medal is awarded to members of the armed forces of the United States who are wounded by an instrument of war in the hands of the enemy and posthumously to the next of kin in the name of those who are killed in action or die of wounds received in action. It is specifically a combat decoration.

If you believe these 13 heroes deserve a Silver Star then along with the Senators, Congressmen and Congresswomen in the list at the end of this letter I ask that you create a committee to advance this request and have the Silver Star authorized.

Please stand up for these "Afghanistan 13" heroes that were the last of our troops to be killed in action in Afghanistan and award them the Silver Star.
