Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping education, raising critical questions about academic
integrity, pedagogy, and ethics. This presentation addresses the rapid advancement of AI in
shaping L2 acquisition, particularly within the evolving context of global Englishes. By
examining both student and teacher perspectives, this session will highlight how AI is reshaping
language learning and instruction. This first part of the presentation will examine student issues
related to AI such as language skill-building, self-directed learning, cultural awareness, and
ethical behaviour. While AI tools often prioritize standardized English norms, an opportunity
exists to highlight linguistic diversity and world Englishes. As AI can recognize differing
accents, students can understand more clearly how multiple accents exists which fosters diversity
rather than reinforcing a singular, dominant standard. The second part will examine AI’s
implementation in the classroom, including its applications in language skill-building,
assessment, and lesson planning. AI can streamline evaluation processes, enhance feedback
mechanisms, and create personalized learning experiences. By integrating AI-driven strategies,
educators can support self-directed learning, fostering student independence and engagement.
Finally, the presentation will explore the broader implications of AI in education, addressing
challenges such as inclusivity, data privacy, accessibility, and environmental concerns. As AI
becomes embedded in education, educators and institutions must proactively shape its
use—ensuring it empowers learners while safeguarding equity, ethics, and academic integrity.
