Why we use double standed sock blanks to dye matched pairs of sock yarn

A sock blank is a knit piece of fabric that you dye to unravel to use the yarn for another project. Double stranded blanks have two strands of yarn knit together - so then you can unravel it into two matched balls of yarn. You can dye up your blanks in whatever random patter you want, those color changes will happen in the same place on both skeins. This is a level of precision that dyers would not be able to otherwise obtain. They're super fun!
