Ione, Nevada, was founded in 1863 after silver was discovered in the nearby Shoshone Range. The town quickly grew as miners and entrepreneurs rushed in, and by 1864, it briefly became the county seat of Nye County. During its peak, Ione had dozens of businesses, a newspaper, and several hundred residents. However, its prosperity was short-lived. As richer silver discoveries were made in nearby Belmont, many people moved away, and Ione began to decline. Despite a few brief revivals tied to renewed mining efforts, the town never fully recovered. Today, Ione stands as a quiet ghost town, a reminder of Nevada’s silver boom era.
