Canadian Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia Care, Screening and Families

This talk is from the 2023 HHT Canada THH Virtual Patient Conference.

Dr. Faughnan is a leading researcher in vascular malformations, who is especially interested in HHT! She is the director of the Toronto HHT Centre and has spearheaded the development and publication of the first and second International HHT Guidelines. Her research and medical practice have benefitted countless HHT patients. She will start off this conference with an overview of HHT and will also be on a discussion panel later in the day.

It is also our pleasure to have Dr. Andreanne Gauthier with us today. A graduate from Montreal University, she did a postgraduate fellowship at the Netherlands HHT clinic. Dr. Gauthier is currently a pulmonologist working in Montreal university hospital center as the director of its HHT clinic, and is an interstitial lung disease specialist.

We’re also excited to introduce Dr. Els de Gussem, the Director of the HHT Center of Excellence at Grace Hospital AMC in Winnipeg. She attended medical school at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam and completed her residency for Respirology in St Antonius Hospital, both in the Netherlands. She has done extensive research on HHT in pregnant women, and pulmonary arteriovenous malformations in HHT patients – including children. She has also made contributions to the Second International HHT Guidelines. Through her passion as a Respirologist, she created the Winnipeg HHT Clinic, recognized as an HHT Center of Excellence. There, Dr. Els de Gussem is passionate in researching systematic screening and treatment of HHT patients to help benefit lives.
