Silky Geuda

Geuda can be heat treated to improve its quality and turn it into a blue sapphire. This process is commonly done in gas-fired furnaces, but electric furnaces can also be used. Before heat treatment techniques were developed, geuda was a colorless, pale, and translucent variety of sapphire that was considered useless. Once heat treatment became available, there was a large increase in the number of blue Sri Lankan sapphires on the market in the 1970s.
