If you're coming from LA:

Stop in Cabazon to see the dinosaurs. Worth it, and free to see the two biggest.

When you see the wind turbines, you know you're getting close to Palm Springs. Also, everything will turn from sand and rock to vivid green.

Downtown Palm Springs is full of nice shops, bars, and plenty of parking! They even have a miniature Walk of Stars.

Check out the tram that takes you to the top of Mt. San Jacinto. Great views and hiking all around.

Spend a couple hours in the Coachella Valley Preserve. It's an awesome desert oasis with a view of the San Andreas Fault.

Make sure you look up at night, as Palm Springs is known for having a nice view of the stars.
