Ep 5 Hunder to Sumur to Siachen Base Camp, Nubra Valley | Ladakh

After spending 2 days in Nubra valley - Hunder Turturk side, we moved towards - Sumur and Siachen Base camp. This is also part of Nubra valley Ladakh.

Below are the activities / key destinations we visited during the journey.

Day 1 we started a road journey from Hunder to Sumur, then on day 2 we started from Sumur and went to Siachen base camp and reached back Sumur. This video is a summary of our two day tour of Nubra valley.

Hunder is located in the Nubra valley on the banks of Shyok river. Sumur , Panamik and Siachen Glacier are located on the banks of Nubra river.

Diskit Monastery, belonging to the 14th century and is considered to be the largest and oldest monastery of Nubra Valley. Diskit monastery is at a height of 10,315 ft.

There is a huge Maitreya Buddha statue about 106 ft tall at an altitude of 10,308 ft.

Maitreya is future Buddha, who will be born to teach enlightenment in the next age.

Khalsar Sand Dunes is about 15 km away from Diskit Monastery. Here one can enjoy various Adventure Activities like ATV ride, World's highest and longest Zipline ride, Cycle Zipline, and Bungee Jumping among other activities.

Sumar Sand Dunes is about 15 km away from Khalsar sand dunes. Sumur Sand dunes is located near Sumur Village. Here one can see the confluence of Nubra and Shyok river.

Sumur village is a quiet, peaceful place with about 180 houses with a population of about 700 people in the village of Nubra Valley, Ladakh. The village of Sumur is located at an altitude of around 10,157 ft above sea-level.

We booked our room at Goba House inn, Hunder Nubra Valley,
Tariff - Rs 2000 for double Occupancy with Breakfast and Dinner.

We stayed at kesar Guest house at Sumur , Nubra valley , tariff rs 2k charged to us, usual tariff is rs 2.5k

Next day morning we started our journey from Sumur village to Siachen Base Camp which is at a distance of 80 km.

Sasoma Bridge is about 39 km away from Sumur. Here one can enjoy and spend time near a beautiful water spring which comes from Siachen Glaciers.

Siachen Base Camp is located at the base of the Siachen Glacier, Ladakh. Siachen Glacier is the longest Glacier in India and 2nd longest in the World with a height of 5753M.

Siachen Glacier is also known as the world's highest battlefield due to the military conflict between India and Pakistan.

Siachen assumes strategic significance for India, Pakistan and even China because it forms a hub between Shaksgam Valley, Karakoram Pass and Aksai Chin.

Siachen is also a base camp of Corps of Indian Army which protects 110 km long Actual Ground Position Line (AGPL) with at least 108 forward military outposts and artillery observation posts in the disputed region of Siachen.

Highest post of Siachen is known as Bana Post which is about a height of 6500M.

Murgi Waterfall is a waterfall located in the village of Murgi, in the Nubra Valley of Ladakh. It is also counted in one of the less known waterfalls of Ladakh.

Panamik hot springs water has a high amount of sulfur in them and it is believed to have medicinal properties which can cure rheumatism and other ailments.
