The main purpose of our trip was to go to the Dunkerque War Museum. My Grandfather, James Whittaker, volunteered to crew one of the Little Ships that rescue Allied servicemen from the beaches of Dunkerque as part of Operation Dynamo in May and June of 1940. I believe he made the crossing at least three times aboard Queen Boadicea II: https://www.nationalhistoricships.org.... His family, including my father, had no idea where he was and he was gone for a couple of weeks. I'm not sure I would have found the courage to do the same.
