Timothy Olyphant's U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens brought Elmore Leonard's Kentucky-based crime stories to life across six seasons of Justified, blending Western aesthetics with modern law enforcement. The show gave us Walton Goggins' Boyd Crowder, Margo Martindale's terrifying Mags Bennett, and some of the most thrilling dialogue on television.  But like all shows, Justified had weaknesses. Procedural episodes sometimes felt like filler between the serialized Boyd Crowder storylines, and some seasons struggled to find a more badass villain in Justified after Mags Bennett set an impossibly high bar in season 2.  These five crime dramas take what Justified did well and push those elements further. Some go darker, others commit harder to the Western genre, and a few simply nail the procedural format that Justified never fully embraced. The Shield (2002–2008) 7 Seasons, 88 Episodes  The Shield operates in the same moral gray area as Justified but refuses to let anyone off the hook. Michael Chiklis plays Detective Vic Mackey as a corrupt cop who robs drug dealers, plants evidence, and arranges murders while convincing himself it's for the greater good. Raylan Givens bent the rules, but Vic Mackey breaks every rule in the first episode and spends 88 episodes trying to avoid consequences.  Without spoiling the details, after seven seasons of The Shield the series finale strips Mackey of everything that defined him, too. It's Justified without the safety net, proving FX could go much darker than cowboy hats and Southern charm. Walton Goggins also plays Shane Vendrell on The Shield before becoming Boyd Crowder, and his performance here is even more unhinged.
