London Bus Route N279 Is Operated By Arriva London North From Their Edmonton (EC) Garage. Route N279 Is Mainly Allocated 11.2 Metre New Routemaster Buses and is partly allocated Volvo B5LH 10.6m / Wright Eclipse Gemini 3 Buses. Route N279 Runs Between Trafalgar Square / Charing Cross Station And Waltham Cross Bus Station Via These Primary Locations; Charing Cross Road - Tottenham Court Road - Warren Street Station - Hampstead Road - Mornington Crescent Station - Camden Town Station - Camden Road Station - Holloway - Finsbury Park - Manor House Station - Seven Sisters Station - Tottenham High Rd - Edmonton - Ponders End And Enfield Highway. The Route Is 14 miles (23km) long With A PVR (Peak Vehicle Requirement) of 15.
Route History: Route N279 commenced operation on 26 April 1996 between Victoria Bus Station and Upshire Princesfield Road via Westminster - Trafalgar Square - Charing Cross Road - Tottenham Court Road - Warren Street Station - Euston - King's Cross - Pancras Road - Mornington Crescent - Camden Town - Holloway - Finsbury Park - Manor House - Seven Sisters - Tottenham - Edmonton - Ponders End - Enfield Highway - Waltham Cross - Waltham Abbey - Ninefields Estate. The route was introduced to replace withdrawn route N90. The route was initially operated by Leaside Buses from their Enfield (E) garage using MCW Metrobuses. On 16 October 1999, the route was retained by Arriva London. At the same time, the route was converted to low floor operation using Alexander ALX400 bodied DAF DB250LFs and was withdrawn between Waltham Cross and Upshire. On 16 October 2004, the route was retained by Arriva London and was withdrawn between Trafalgar Square and Victoria. At the same time, the route was rerouted between Warren Street and Mornington Crescent direct via Hampstead Road instead of via King's Cross. On 15 October 2011, the route was retained by Arriva London with brand new Alexander Dennis Enviro 400s introduced. On 15 October 2016, the route was retained by Arriva London. On 6 April 2019, the allocation was transferred to Edmonton (EC) garage and the Alexander Dennis Enviro 400s were replaced by Wright Eclipse Gemini 3 bodied Volvo B5LHs. In January 2022, the Wright Eclipse Gemini 3 bodied Volvo B5LHs were replaced by existing New Routemasters.
