How To Rap - Wordplay pt.2 (Fission and Fusion)

Before you watch this video, it would probably be helpful for you to watch my last video, which is on double meaning wordplay.

Another type of wordplay, which I personally think is harder than double meaning, is word fusion/word fission. These are both essentially the same concept.

For word fusion, you combine words together to make a bigger word the sounds the same
In word fission, you break a word down into smaller words that sound the same

That's probably still pretty confusing, so here's an example

pair ah dice/paradise

So for example:
I'm like a gambler, always clutch my paradise
When the world hurts, I go hide in terabytes

terra bites - Earth Bites (terra = earth, look it up)
terabytes - Computer Storage


It's kind of an odd permutation of homophones, instead of one word that sounds the same, it's sets of words that sound the same as other sets of words.

Another one would be 'window/win dough'
For example:

I came to this battle knowing I would gain some cash
So if you wanna 'win dough' you best buy a pane of glass

For me it's easiest to focus on the wordplay first, then form the bar after

My strategy for coming up with this type of wordplay is to think of multiple syllable words and see what other words and sounds they can be broken up into.

Paradise - Pair-Ah-Dice

I also think of smaller words as parts and see if it's possible to add words on to them to make other words. For example: Win

Win-ter
Win-dex
Win-Dough


This is a tricky thing to use, make sure when using fission/fusion wordplay it not only makes sense but also that you do it in a way people will actually be able to catch it.
