The good people of the Gulf Coast Sustainability Academy share their success stories surrounding environmental education.
The Gulf Coast Sustainability Academy at Gulf Shores High School provides hands-on learning opportunities and rigorous coursework that focuses on our unique Gulf Coast region. GSHS has also created a sustainability team to focus on integrating sustainability practices across the curriculum to increase student and community engagement. Learn about our dune restoration project, system-wide recycling initiative, composting, garden project, native tree farm, and more!
Science by the Shore is a district-wide initiative of Gulf Shores City Schools whose vision “to build authentic, hands-on lessons using our local natural resources to guide our students toward growing a relationship with nature in order to develop environmentally conscious young adults.” . We will share sample lesson plans and brainstorm how to start your own place-based science curriculum. We will also share about the community partnerships we have developed to ensure success of these initiatives.
