Jean Paul Gaultier’s Fall 2005 collection for Hermès was a brilliant mix of rebellious Russian themes and the brand’s signature luxury. The collection playfully nodded to the Bolshevik era with suede caps, Red Guard-inspired fur hats, and a Russian-themed soundtrack. Yet, Gaultier’s true genius lay in how he seamlessly blended these elements with Hermès' iconic sophistication.
Luxurious shearling, tailored corduroy jackets, and fit-and-flare skirts were paired with classic pinstripe suits and crocodile belts, all infused with a newfound softness. The collection also showcased Gaultier's signature equestrian references—cashmere plaid jackets with fringe and Hermès’ silk scarves reimagined as bold accessories.
For eveningwear, Gaultier delivered decadent velvet dresses, proving Hermès could shine after dark. His purple velvet halter and emerald gown marked a glamorous shift for the house, making this collection one of his most memorable for Hermès
