The Bible says the hour is at hand — and in this message, Pastor Tim Dunn walks through Romans 13:11–14 to show what it means to be truly ready for the return of Jesus. Learn why awake Christians live urgently, armored Christians live by the Word, and advancing Christians live on mission with the gospel. This message is a call to wake up, get armored, and step into the life God created you to live.

In this powerful sermon, Pastor Tim Dunn uses Romans 13:11–14 to call believers to spiritual readiness as the return of Jesus draws near. He opens with a story from his teenage years — a house party interrupted by a father coming home unexpectedly — and uses it as a picture of how unprepared the world will be when Christ returns in glory. Paul’s message to the church in Rome is the same message for us today: wake up, because the night is far gone and the day is at hand. Pastor Tim explains that Paul is not talking about clock time but about an era shift, when the suffering Servant who came in humility will return as the cosmic Christ — the King of Kings, visible to all, unmistakable in power and authority.
A ready Christian, he teaches, has three defining characteristics. First, ready Christians are awake — not morally drowsy, not waiting until “one day,” but urgently aligning their lives with God’s will right now. Second, ready Christians are armored, putting off the works of darkness and putting on the armor of light. Pastor Tim connects this armor to being dominated by the Word of God, allowing Scripture to shape our thoughts, reactions, and character even when life hurts. Third, ready Christians are advancing, walking properly, rejecting sin, and putting on the Lord Jesus Christ so they can bring the future Kingdom into the present through gospel living.
The message becomes deeply pastoral as Pastor Tim urges believers not to give up — whether in marriage, faith, health struggles, or discouragement. Like Derek Redmond’s father running onto the Olympic track to lift up his injured son, God strengthens those who keep moving forward. Pastor Tim reminds the church that souls are at stake and that Christians must be awake, armored, and advancing so the gospel shines in a dark world. The sermon closes with a clear invitation to salvation, explaining why only the righteousness of Christ can shield us before a holy God and why today — not someday — is the time to respond in faith.
