India Gets Back Buddha’s Piprahwa Relics Taken in the British Era | Spotlight | N18G 

In a major cultural victory, India has welcomed the return of the sacred Piprahwa relics precious artefacts linked to Lord Buddha, 127 years after they were taken abroad. Excavated in 1898 in present-day Uttar Pradesh by British engineer William Peppé, the relics include gemstones once enshrined with Buddha’s cremated remains. Their planned auction in Hong Kong by Sotheby’s was halted after diplomatic pressure and global outrage. Prime Minister Modi called their return a “joyous day” for Indian heritage.
