Person-Centred Therapy, Pluralism, and the Actualising Tendency: A Dialogue

What is the difference between person-centred and pluralistic approaches? Can we integrate directive methods into non-directive practices? What actually is the 'actualising tendency'?

In this in-depth dialogue with the very thoughtful and articulate Chris Molyneux --person-centred trainer, writer, and practitioner--we explore a range of questions at the interface between person-centred and pluralistic perspectives.

The dialogue identifies a range of similarities between our perspectives, such as a starting point of deep respect and valuing for the client. But we also try and pull apart the key differences: such as the belief in the necessity and sufficiency of the core conditions, and the centrality of relational understandings of human being.

We hope that this video will be of value to trainees and practitioners in the person-centred, pluralistic, and humanistic communities: helping to develop understandings and bridges across the different perspectives.
