In this video, I review The Ogre of Athens, a Greek noir tragedy that completely blindsided me. This is the first Greek-language film I’ve ever seen, and it left a lasting impression. Hitchcockian in tone, deeply tragic, and surprisingly emotional, the film follows Thomas, a meek and lonely banker who becomes mistaken for a notorious folk criminal known as The Ogre of Athens. What follows is a haunting spiral of identity, perception, and fate.

As Thomas is forced to embody the myth others project onto him, the film explores how reputation, fear, and belief can reshape a person entirely. Set against the backdrop of criminal underworlds, doomed romance, and an unforgettable pre-heist Greek dance sequence, this film elevates itself far beyond standard noir into true masterpiece territory.
