Detailed step-by-step DIY. Replacing the Antifreeze/Coolant in a 2006 Lexus IS350 rear-wheel drive (2GR-FSE engine).
It takes about 30-minutes to an hour to do it yourself.
The first coolant change must be done before 100,000 miles.
After that, it needs to be changed every 50,000 miles, according to Lexus.
Since only half of the total coolant capacity is changed with each radiator drain, I would just recommend changing it sooner.
I am changing the coolant for the first time at 68,630 miles.
Toyota or Lexus Dealer: 1 gallon of 50/50 Pre-Diluted Super Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant (the pink stuff)
Cost at Dealer: $31.83 + sales tax
I recommend sticking with the original Toyota coolant. It doesn’t cost that much more to avoid mixing between brands.
O’Reilly Auto Parts store: Performance Tool Spill Proof Coolant Fill Kit W89740
Cost: $44.99 + sales tax (It is half that price on Amazon or eBay)
Hand Tools: A pair of ramps, a pair of wheel chocks, 5 quart drain pan, 10mm socket, socket wrench, 3-inch extension, needle nose pliers, a pick or small flat head screw driver, and paper towels.
I filmed this in 4K UHD (3840x2160) at 30 frames per second (which is guess is really 2K).
