The purpose of this video is to get some current info on first aid. When I went through the police Academy, we were given training in first aid. CPR, bleeding control, etc. The only problem with all that training is that it was forty years ago! Tech, and knoledge, has advanced over the last forty years. A LOT! There has also been a change in philosophy pertaining to the application of tourniquets. Back in the day they were very concerned with limb loss. Over time we have come to think differently. Potenpally lose the limb, but save the life. If the patient bleeds out, what have you accomplished? If the person dies, you have lost the war! That said! Its critically important to understand when a tourniquet is needed. First, apply direct pressure, then bandage, in short tourniquet is a last step for arterial bleeding. F.Y.I. A tourniquet to the neck? never ends well!
