BREAK IN THE CYPHER

This DVD was originally created to document purely 100% cypher footage from our travels. We hit London, New York, Boston, Miami. There is also bonus footage featuring Born To Rock crew and Bristol Breaking Convention...(Continued below)

THE RATIONALE
Few people understand why b-boys dance in circles known as Cyphers. Some claim it is the purest form of our art; no doubt some of you have heard the quotation:


"The real bboying takes place in the circles"

Very few films focus on this raw element of our dance and whilst watching and entering competitions can be entertaining, there is something special about being in a cipher.

In producing this film, I hoped to capture the sense of intimacy, rawness, emotion and feeling that takes place in the cypher. The original music that was being played at the time has been kept intact and little editing has gone in to this production to ensure that the footage remains true. Of course, there is no substitute for actually being there and dancing in the circles.

WHY NOW?

Having torn the cartilage in my knee, I took the opportunity to rest and also put together this film. I have always believed that we document events so that they can be seen by as many people as possible. Films were made to be watched, not to be saved on a computer for a select few to see. This is why this film is now available for free online.

DEDICATION

This film is dedicated firstly to my crew, Born To Rock (UK) and secondly to all the B-BOYS, B-GIRLS, MCs, DJs and Writers; to all Hip Hop artists that feature in this film. A special shout out goes to the following people, but also to all those that walked the same path before them:
