The Empire burned.

Not in flame—but in silence. Villages stood empty, fields rotted in place, and the Reik ran black with silt and blood. South of Altdorf, where Reikland’s rolling hills once met the forest’s edge, a terrible stillness had settled.

The scouts said it was a plague.

They were wrong.

Weeks earlier, a caravan of Empire archaeologists—under the protection of a merchant prince from Marienburg—had unearthed a sealed tomb near the Grey Mountains. It was not theirs to open. It had no name. No sigils. Only a warning carved in ancient Nehekharan:

"Let none disturb the court of the Forgotten King."

But greed speaks louder than wisdom.

Within hours of breaking the seal, the sky had darkened and the winds of magic screamed. From the desecrated crypt emerged not one of the known kings of Nehekhara, but a long-buried usurper—King Rahmotep the Hollow—exiled even in death. His tomb had been hidden beyond his homeland to prevent his return.

Now, freed from his prison, Rahmotep summoned his forgotten legions beneath the soil of the Empire. Skeletons clawed their way out of graveyards and catacombs. Giant scorpion constructs skittered across farmland. Carrion birds blackened the sky. Reikland’s southern border fell within days.

Word of the rising dead reached Ulthuan not by messenger, but by omen.

Archmage Carvalon of Saphery had studied the flow of magical energy across the Old World for centuries. When he saw the ley lines buckle near the Grey Mountains—tainted by tomb magic and necrotic power—he knew something terrible had awakened far from Nehekhara.

Queen Alarielle herself ordered a strike force: swift and precise. Not to save the Empire, but to prevent the corruption of the Winds of Light—the sacred Lore of Hysh. If Rahmotep spread too far north, the magical balance of the world could fracture.

And so, a fleet of High Elves arrived in secret at the Empire’s ruined southern ports. Led by Prince Elenion of Caledor and Mage Loremaster Thalorien, the Elves moved swiftly inland through scorched villages and lifeless glades, toward the black heart of the undead incursion.

They found Rahmotep on the banks of the Reik.

He sat atop a monstrous bone dragon, watching as his skeletal priests drained the river itself—turning it into a dry basin to form a new necropolis in his image. Tomb Guard stood in eerie formation, silent but alert. Stone constructs, shaped like scarabs and jackals, moved through the ruins with grinding purpose.

Prince Elenion narrowed his eyes.

“We strike now,” he said. “Before his roots sink too deep.”

Without hesitation, the High Elves advanced—lithe, radiant figures in a land gone pale with death.
