What happens when democratic institutions start to erode from within? This urgent and timely Chair Chat dives into the fragile foundations of freedom, the warning signs of rising authoritarianism, and the legal structures that can either protect or erode civil liberties.
Join us for a thought-provoking conversation featuring:
Timothy Snyder – Richard C. Levin Professor of History, Yale University; Author, On Freedom and On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century
Richard Peña – Vice Chair, Rights of Immigrants Committee, ABA Section of Civil Rights and Social Justice; President and CEO, Law Offices of Richard Pena, P.C.
Together, they examine how legal institutions can be co-opted or protected, drawing on global history and current events to explore the role of lawyers, judges, and citizens in preserving freedom—and the civic responsibility of legal professionals in defending democratic values.
