Yoda closes his eyes and ponders the implications of the recent battle of Coruscant. From an attack on the Jedi Temple to more and more Jedi turning to the dark side, more problems are arising even as the Clone Wars draws to an end. And though he does not wish to admit it, the worst of these problems is as clear as day. People simply no longer respect the Jedi. His recent journey with Qui-Gon has only left him further questioning what should happen.

After hours of meditation, he comes up with the answer. Yoda must find a replacement while he finishes his training with Qui-Gon. The only question is who.

The Jedi Council is too tied to the old ways, too attached to the very thing that has caused this trouble. It has to be someone new, someone who owes no loyalty to the Jedi Code. With a sigh, Yoda decides there can only be one person for the job.

Yoda: The galaxy, in shadow it falls. The Jedi, distant we have become, from the people we serve. Time, it is, for change. Travel I must, to learn and unravel the mysteries of the Force. My successor, chosen he is until I return.

Mace Windu: Master Yoda, this is… highly unexpected. Who have you chosen?

Yoda: Skywalker, it is. Understand the galaxy’s suffering, he does. A connection to its people, rare and vital. Guide him, you must. A leader for the times, Skywalker may be. Restore faith in the Jedi Order, he can.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: I trust Anakin’s strength, but this will be a heavy burden for him.

Yoda: Not alone he, will be. Assigned to him, Master Fisto is, for counsel and balance.

Kit Fisto: I will certainly do my best to temper young Skywalker. I think he shall be an excellent Grand Master.

This is enough to mollify most of them. But as Yoda prepares to depart, Anakin approaches him.

Yoda: Come, Skywalker. Speak, if you wish to, but be quick. Long is my journey.

Anakin: Master Yoda, I just heard the news. I… I am honored, by your trust in me. I’ll do everything I can to justify your faith in me.

Yoda: Gratitude, unnecessary it is. Earned this, you have. Skywalker, this task, great and heavy it is. Believe in you, I do. Lead not for yourself, but for the Council, the people, the Force. But remember Skywalker—no longer your own are your choices. Every decision, for the Council, must be. For the Jedi, for the galaxy.

Anakin: I understand. I won’t let you down, Master.

Yoda: Good. Trust in you, the Force does. Trust in it, you must. Now go, I must. A long way to travel, there is.

Anakin: Chuckles. At least you won’t need me to cover for you again.

Yoda: No, but know the stress of dealing with wayward Jedi, you will soon learn. Laughs.

Anakin’s first order of business is to begin helping the people of Coruscant so he organizes a task force of Jedi to supervise these efforts. He is careful to select those who are known for their kind hearts like Kit Fisto, Saesee Tiin, and Tera Sinube

They journey to the lower districts and places most affected by the recent battle and begin to distribute relief aid. After years of being neglected, the sight of Jedi and aid from the Temple is a welcome sight and many people cheer them on.

But the situation is more dire than they realize. Anakin urges these Jedi to not just help the people, but listen to them. To sit down and discuss their plights so they may find more ways to aid them. Anakin takes note of all their grievances and brings them to Padme as an official report from the Jedi. The chancellor gives his backing and it is as if new life was breathed into the opposition. It seems like Anakin’s ties with both of them are a boon for the Jedi Order and the opposition as they accomplish far more in these initial weeks than they were in months.

Many in the Jedi Council like Obi-Wan and Master Plo Koon are satisfied and welcome this change, deciding that Yoda indeed made the right decision. But others remain unconvinced.

However, none of this keeps the nightmares at bay though Anakin tries to keep busy, he still must sleep and when he closes his eyes, he’s greeted by the same nightmares of Padme that he can never shake off. The difference is, that Anakin now feels like he has someone to turn to.

Although Kit Fisto is technically a Council representative, he is jovial and talks to Anakin more like a friend and colleague rather than a master to a subordinate. His disarming smile usually helps put Anakin at ease and his friendly demeanor makes it easier to approach.

As they finish a supply run, Anakin invites Kit Fisto to a meal.

Anakin: Master, can I speak to you on personal matters? For the past few weeks, I have been suffering from nightmares. Terrible dreams that return every time I sleep. I was wondering if you could help me.
