The music of “Carol of the Bells” was composed by Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych in 1916 (originally the folk-chant “Shchedryk”).

The English lyrics were added in 1936 by composer/arranger Peter J. Wilhousky.

Over a century after its composition, “Carol of the Bells” has become one of the most recognised and covered Christmas carols worldwide including this one by Lindsey Sterling, crossing genres from choir and classical to rock, pop — and now metalcore.
