Is the Humminbird Helix 7 worth your hard-earned money, or should you keep looking for another fish finder?

I've had the Helix 7 G4 CHIRP MEGA DI installed on my boat for a while now, after receiving it from BPS, and this is my honest review.

The Helix 7 was simple to install on my boat. I opted to mount the transducer to my trolling motor, but I could have mounted it to the stern of the boat.

However, after reading this review from SLICE, I was a bit worried I would end up hating the unit:
I still haven't had the money to replace the one i bought years ago that i couldn't get any answers to why the mega structure scanning just stopped workin after 3 months...Im more upset with hummingbird for not just swapping it out since its apparently just a defective unit ive trouble shot every other choice and spent hours on it making sure it wasn't something else. All for nothing i never got any response or help so i just keep fishing with just regular sonar...Some people dont have all the money in the world to just keep buying units until they find one that works..

Well, I'm definitely one of those people, which is why I make videos like this when companies send me products to review.

So, with SLICE's review in mind, I headed to the lake to test this unit.

After spending several hours with it, I've found several pros and cons you should be aware of before buying it.

Let's start with the cons.

Cons:
Humminbird naming convention.
After several years of studying fish finders, I am just now starting to grasp the way Humminbird names its fish finders, but I still find it a bit confusing. So if you're new to the Humminbird line or fish finders in general, be sure the unit you're buying comes with the transducer and features you want.
Humminbird Menus
This is the first Humminbird unit I've used, but I'm very familiar with the Garmin and Lowrance user interface, and both Garmin and Lowrance are more user-friendly with much better menus. I feel like the menus on the Helix 7 are from Windows 98...

Pros:
Bright, crystal clear screen.
This is one of the best screens I've seen on any fish finder, including the high-end models I've reviewed. I didn't struggle at all to see it when the sun was shining directly on it. I'm not kidding when I say I was shocked at the screen clarity and brightness the first time I turned it on.
Decent maps
The maps are one of the most overlooked features on fish finders, but don't overlook these. The built-in GPS was spot on, and I can scout areas on my lake before I get there, saving me loads of time.
Great sonar
Down Imaging is my favorite sonar feature on this unit because it provides very clear images and reveals details that I would have otherwise missed.
However, don't neglect the CHIRP sonar because it is also one of the clearest and most detailed readings I've ever seen from a mid-tier fish finder.
The transducer is small, making it ideal for use on small boats, kayaks, or when mounted on a trolling motor, as I did.
Reasonable price
Though it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of high-end fish finders, the Helix 7 is perfectly priced for the features it does offer.

Who Should Buy It?
The Helix 7 isn't for everyone. Tournament anglers should avoid it like the plague, but weekend anglers in Jon boats, kayaks, and other small vessels should seriously consider it.
It's great for getting on the water to find structure and fish.
