Whitesands Bay to Porthclais - Wales Coast Path

Section 44 - Last time we saw the trip was in peril with Jan needing to take to the walking pole (a very rare sight) but how will they get on this time? Will they reach civilisation, and more importantly the shops of St Davids?

The objective is to complete the section of coast path to Porthclais. It is only 7 miles long but will the conditions favour the ailing lads?

Setting off from Whitesands Bay where a terrible night was had due to inconsiderate fellow campers, Jan and Don hobble onwards to the small bay at Porthselau before a short climb upwards brings them out at St John's Point where they are mesmerised by the majestic view of Ramsey Island before them.

Uplifted by this sight and the beautiful coastline ahead, they continue around a headland to the first break at St Justinian's overlooking the amazing lifeboat stations. Onwards until Carn ar Wig where the lads speculate about strange floating things and a rough looking section of sea.

That ferocious channel of water is The Bitches, a very strong tidal race caused by an underwater reef, creating powerful waves which spray the lads and keep them cool as they walk by.

Reaching the most westerly section of mainland Wales at Pen Dal-aderyn and rounding the Treginnis headland, the lads are quickly dried out by very strong winds that hit them, and threaten to knock them off course.

Passing Ogof Cadno and heading further east towards a seagull convention near Porth Henllys, an ominous rocky obstacle is encountered - will this prove to be a step to far? Find out.
