Today we explore the grounds of Chicago's Meadowdale Raceway, a 3.27 mile long road course built in 1958 and abandoned in 1969. Mark Donohue won the final major Trans Am event here in 1968 with the famous 67 Penske Camaro. Many other racing icons found success here such as Augie Pabst, Harry Heuer, and Fred Lorenzen to name a few. We meet with local racer AJ Henriksen and Midwest Racing Preservation Association (MIRPA) director Linda Daro to get the inside details on how this forgotten racetrack used to work back in the day. The property is now known as Raceway Woods preserve and is open to hiking with bike trails as well. Linda obtained special permission for us to explore the grounds with motorized vehicles which are otherwise not allowed. Thousands of Chicago area residents drive past this place every day and have no idea that it exists!
