UK Emergency Alerts mobile phone test on 7th September 2025, 15:01hrs

On Sunday 7 September 2025 at 15:01hrs the government carried out a national test of the Emergency Alerts system, The test was scheduled for 15:00hrs but devices recieved the alert at 15:01hrs. Most mobile phones and tablets across the UK received a test message accompanied by a loud siren and vibration that lasted for about 10 seconds.
It also appears that the mobile network signal is boosted or somehow merged during these broadcasts as one of our phones normally has no connection inside the house, yet had 2 bars during the test.
This is the 2nd national test carried out, The first being in April 2023. The first test sent five real alerts during major storms when lives were genuinely at risk.
Interesting to note is that the Alarm will sound even if the device settings are set to silent.
Not all devices received the alert. Older phones or those not connected to 4G or 5G networks may not be compatible with the system.
