Radical Ocean Futures: Science-fiction, the deep Blue, and the outskirts of Earthly imagination

Radical Ocean Futures is a project that combines scientific inquiry with artistic practices to explore a multitude of potential futures of the Ocean and of the Earth. The session will feature Tilde Krusberg, Hannah Marlen Lübker, and Andrew Merrie, three of the researchers of Radical Ocean Futures, who will discuss the premises, implications, and tensions of the project.

🔹Andrew Merrie is a sustainability scientist at the Stockholm Resilience Centre and creator of the Radical Ocean Futures project—an imaginative set of scientifically grounded multimedia narratives that explore possible ocean futures through science fiction prototyping.

🔹Tilde Krusberg wrote her MSc thesis within Radical Ocean Futures and used science-fiction prototyping to explore post-growth Ocean futures. Today, she is a PhD student at Lund University Centre for Sustainability Studies (LUCSUS), where she works on visions of fossil-free food systems in Sweden.

🔹 Hannah Marlen Lübker is a PhD candidate at Brock University, working on the “Empathy for Sustainability” project. She has previously focused on ocean futures as part of her MSc degree at the Stockholm Resilience Centre.
