Ontario Premier Doug Ford spoke to reporters on Thursday about trade relations with the U.S. amid on-and-off tariff tensions, emphasizing the importance of fast-tracking infrastructure projects so that we don't "rely on the U.S. any longer."
"We have to start building pipelines west, north and east," he said.
Doug Ford also spoke about his controversial Bill 5, the Protect Ontario by Unleashing our Economy Act, which proposed to speed up mining projects in northern Ontario, making major changes to the laws governing protected species.
"This isn't about hurting First Nations. This is about giving 'em an opportunity," he said.
As part of the legislation, the government also wants to establish special economic zones that would suspend provincial and municipal laws for certain projects.
