Hello everyone, and welcome back to my channel! This video is of my live performance of Vittorio Monti's Czardas at my senior recital this past April! Czardas, published in 1904, is a rhapsody-like concert piece written by Italian composer Vittorio Monti, who was not only a violinist, but also a mandolinist and conductor. Czardas is his most well-known piece and has gained popularity amongst many musicians. The piece was originally written for violin, but since its publishing, many arrangements for other instruments have been written, including this one for solo piano. This particular transcription was written by an arranger and pianist by the name of Kassia, and does a wonderful job of keeping the playful, unpredictable nature of the
original piece. Based on a Hungarian folk dance, Czardas begins with a slow opening section before exploding into a fast and lively tune that feels just on the brink of out of control. This tune is broken up by a grand, slow section in D Major and a beautiful melodic section before working its way back up to the frenzied tune from earlier in the piece, finishing on a triumphant D Major chord. This piano arrangement of Czardas follows the violin piece of its name as exactly as possible, and makes for a very exciting and fun piano piece!
