The month of August 2025 got off to a stormy start with this severe thunderstorm moving in during the later afternoon hours on August 1, 2025 in Huntersville, NC. This was the first direct-hit storm to move through the area in over a week. This storm packed a punch with a lot of lightning activity and some accompanying loud thunder, with several close strikes. This storm was part of a summer cold front, putting an end to a miserable heat wave. This front resulted in the area seeing the second coldest first week start to August on record. For the following week, the area picked up near a half foot of rain, and had several days with temperatures barely making it out of the 60s.
