"Digital Empires: The Global Battle to Regulate Technology" with Author Anu Bradford

The CSIS Wadhwani Center for AI and Advanced Technologies is pleased to host Anu Bradford, Professor of Law at Columbia University and author of “Digital Empires: The Global Battle to Regulate Technology". This virtual book talk will be live-streamed on February 12, from 2:00-3:00 pm ET. Anu Bradford will be joined in this event by Wadhwani Center Director Gregory C. Allen.

This discussion will dive deep into Bradford’s most recently published book, which earned a spot in the Financial Times’ Best Economics Books of 2023 list. In her book, Bradford highlights the intensifying battle facing global governments to regulate technology. She explores three contrasting regulatory methods: the American market-centered approach, the Chinese state-centered approach, and the European rights-centered approach, and evaluates how global governments and technology companies handle the conflicts created by these colliding methods of regulation.

Anu Bradford is Henry L. Moses Professor of Law and International Organizations at Columbia Law School. She is also a director for Columbia’s European Legal Studies Center and a Senior Scholar at Jerome A. Chazen Institute for Global Business at Columbia Business School. She is an expert on European Union law, digital regulation, international trade law, and comparative and international antitrust law. Bradford is the author of “The Brussels Effect: How the European Union Rules the World” (OUP 2020), which was named one of the Best Books of 2020 by Foreign Affairs. Her most recent book “Digital Empires: The Global Battle to Regulate Technology” was published by Oxford University Press in September 2023, and was recognized as one of the Best Books of 2023 by Financial Times.
