Rethinking cytotoxicity: beyond endpoints
Most cytotoxicity assays stop at a single endpoint. An LDH release, an MTT assay, or a viability dye confirms that death has occurred, but misses the dynamics in between. Cell death is not uniform: some cells succumb quickly, others resist longer, and a fraction may even recover.

📹3T3 preadipocytes were incubated at 42°C to induce heat shock. Over time, cells contracted and lost contact with neighbours. The Health Cell Index initially dropped before stabilizing around 85, with low cell death. After 15 hours, stress intensified: the index declined sharply, and cell death increased. Imaging was performed using Nanolive’s LIVE Cytotoxicity Assay (RI + cytotoxicity overlay with graphic).
