Assembled from various sources on YouTube and from my collection, here is a lengthy montage of brief news updates from New Orleans' NBC affiliate WDSU's "24 Hour News Source" era (March 1991-October 1993).
WDSU, like hundreds of other local stations during the early '90s, sought to become their market's equivalent to CNN by incorporating hourly news updates that aired outside the stations' primary newscasts during breaks in network and syndicated programming.
A month after WDSU launched its 24-hour news presence, WDSU's main competitor, then-market leader WWL, began doing hourly updates under the "Eyewitness NewsWatch - News Around The Clock" branding, which tied in to their already up-and-running 24-hour Cox Cable news simulcast/replay channel "NewsWatch 15".
While WWL's updates ran until at least 1997, WDSU's experiment with the "24 Hour News" format ended in October 1993 when, following a change in news directors, the station rebranded its on-air look and changed its theme music from Stephen Arnold's "NewsAge" (heard here) to Shelly Palmer's "Palmer News Package".
All copyrights acknowledged. These clips came partly from my collection, but also from YouTube users/channels jacky9br, Classic New Orleans TV, The Helicopter Spies, galaxies352 and the long-defunct Houston TV News.
