an English rewrite of QWER’s title track for their 2nd album “My name is Malguem. The goal was to recreate the song with the same overall theme and narrative, but with lyrics that can be sung by english speaking audiences. If you wanna use the lyrics to cover or anything just try to give credits
Notes:
when I was able to fully comprehend the song, it became very clear that this track is direct follow-up narratively to the TBH (title track for the for the first album). I have another vid ready for that song too, prob gonna finish it soon.
the phrase “my name is malguem” as used in the song is actually a double entendre/play on words (at least to my understanding).
“naeireun malkeum“ is used in the middle chorus and means “it will be sunny”
“nae ireum malgeum” is used in the last chorus and would read out like “my name is sunny/malguem” but they sound identical so that’s the twist at the end.
I used “it will be someday” and “I will be someday” as I think it could almost work in that context. Not exact but it was a liberty taken
unlike TBH, however, some have pointed out that the mv for the song can be interpreted as having more serious undertones. I can totally see it and I’m guessing they’re referring to the part towards the end w Hina and Siyeon. I still cannot figure out concretely what’s going on.
there were some creative liberties taken w the lyrics (sorry), but I kinda had to in order to not make certain parts sound too awkward. That said I think overall it’s still very faithful to the overall vibe and narrative.
Siyeon is so pretty and talented ._. I highly recommend checking out more of the live videos, as QWER is more of a band than an idol group. The Lives pretty much showcase their talents on another level and that’s why I used the tour version of the song for the video.
Chodan’s section was prob the most difficult for me but I think it came out well all things considered.
I’ll try to make more so just lmk if you have any requests. I just make these for myself (really just sharing so it’s documented somewhere lol) and have a bunch already written, just needing video accompaniment. I’ll prob put out the TBH one next.
