Startup fundraising is hard. Dozens of experts offer pitch tips and tricks. But here, we offer a real-life example of a founder pitching investors at PitchForce, a weekly pitch event sponsored by PeopleConnect. After the founder delivers a 4-minute pitch, pitch judges ask a few quick questions, then provide specific feedback to the founder. We've shortened the process to save time and added an explanation to help you understand the rationale behind the feedback. Founders can learn valuable lessons to improve their fundraising pitch. In this episode #5 (of many), we discuss the importance of how to capture and show usage metrics. This is a continuation of the topic from our pitch coaching episode #4, where we covered traction metrics. The startup that pitched in this video has an interesting Software as a Service (SaaS) revenue model. In our explanation at the end of the video, we cover the 10 most common types of startup revenue models, as many usage metrics are linked to how your startup makes money. We also describe why it's important to show trends instead of aggregate usage numbers.
