Detroit water main break during cold snap causes major flooding, leaves cars frozen in place

A burst water main flooded a Detroit neighborhood during a cold snap on Monday, filling the streets with several feet of water and ice.

In a statement on Monday morning, the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) said a 54-inch water transmission main broke in the area of Beard and Rowan in southwest Detroit.

At least 54 adults, 22 children, and 12 pets were rescued, according to city officials.

Emergency responders, including some in boats, had to carry out impacted residents, while some families had to be moved to hotels after losing power and water to their homes.
