The water is Down what Gifts did it Leave Us

I returned to my favorite geode creek near Grafton, Illinois—just five days since my last visit—and what a difference! The water had gone down significantly, revealing a fresh layer of geodes scattered across the ground, washed out from wherever they originate. Many of them were impressively large, and several turned out to be real beauties.

These geodes aren’t quite like the ones from Keokuk. Instead of massive quartz chambers, they’re often filled with clusters of smaller, double-terminated crystals. I suspect they may still be part of the same general formation—just separated by about a hundred miles or so.
