Come along with Shadow and me as we rockhound under the strange, doctor sues like Joshua Trees on the Northeastern edge of the Mohave Desert. Here, in the Joshua Tree National Landmark, we hunt for quartz, agates, jaspers, and various forms of chalcedony. The alluvial fan that forms this part of the desert floor is rich in minerals and colorful rocks that have made their way down from the mountains above. We do, indeed, find some fine samples of microcrystaline quart, otherwise known as chalcedony, in both agate and jasper form; as well as beautiful white and blue quartz.
We also learned a lot about the famous Yucca in this region known as The Joshua Tree. The Joshua Trees are starting to bloom and produce seeds. These seeds are edible and were a part of the diet of the Native American people. They also used the sharp, strong barbs to make baskets, shoes, and thatched roofs.
And finally, in addition to rockhounding and learning about the Joshua Tree, we had a wonderful time enjoying this beautiful part of Earth. We invite you to come along with us on another one of many Adventures of Shadow.
