Grevy's zebra mother kicks at 8-month old male foal while attempting to wean young zebra at the Brevard Zoo in Melbourne, Florida. No easy task for mother as wild foal has "the zoomies," jumping on top of and rubbing against her while trying to sneak in some nursing. She sends her message with kicks and attempts to walk away. Foal imitates mother's roll in the dirt and enjoys the benefits of rubbing off dead skin and dislodging insects, ticks, and other pests. Female foals stay with mother for up to 18 months, while male foals stay with mother for up to 3 years and don't reach social maturity until 6 years.
